Gameplay in Battlefield Heroes feels a bit different than your might expect. When first seeing the game and it's cartoony, flashy artstyle it's easy to assume the gameplay being fast and frantic.
It quickly becomes apparent that the game is deliberately a bit slower paced than you might think. Characters have a sluggish feeling at first. Once you enter combat it becomes very apparent that this was a good decision. Heroes was made for a more casual audience, the slower pacing is unnoticable during combat but it's enough to make sure players are not forced to pocess superhuman reaction times to be competitive while playing.

Heroes uses a mix between an RPG like skill system and classic FPS gameplay. While the core of the game is still "Aim with mouse at moving thingie and click to kill", Heroes mixes it up by adding RPG like skills into the gameplay. At the top of your screen is a bar with the different skills and weapons available for you, by pressing the corrosponding hotkey you can use these skills (or switch your weapon). There are various skills available to each class. These include things like healing yourself, blasting back all enemies around you, the ability to see the location of all enemies around you and many many more!
Battlefield Heroes uses the same Capture & Hold type of game that people whove played previous Battlefield games are familiar with. Capture & Hold has 2 teams facing off to control a certain number of control points. Whenever a team holds a majority of the control points the other team will start losing points. The first team to lose all their points loses the match.
Capture and Hold is constant back and forth of controlpoints. While you are capturing one point you cannot defend other points. This means having to constantly decide wether to go on offense or defence. It makes for some very interesting gameplay situations where stealthy players are able to single handedly capture points while the enemy team is busy attack or defending other points. |
