Battlefield Heroes is the latest installment in the Battlefiend franchise. It's currently being developed by the Swedish developer DICE and will be published by Electronic Arts. The exact release date is not known yet but it is expected that the game is ready for launch late Q1 or early Q2 of 2009.
Unlike the previous installments in the Battlefield franchise Heroes isn't even remotely close to being realistic. Characters climb up on the wings of airplanes (which do bear a striking resemblance to a cartoon version of a spitfire!) so they can fire their rocket launchers and guns. The graphics are bright and colorful and also have a very distinct cartoon style. More important Battlefield Heroes is actually FREE to play! That's right: No game to purchase, no monthly fee. You can play the game for no charge at all. Profits will come from microtransactions in the form of new clothing pieces, temporary XP bonusses and more. |
All these things are completely optional though. If you don't want to buy items you won't have to!
Battlefield Heroes is often compared to Team Fortress 2 by Valve. However from the first minute you jump into the game it'll become obvious that these 2 games are nothing alike, other than both sharing a cartoony artstyle there are few differences though!
Battlefield Heroes at it's core shares a similar gameplay to all previous Battlefield games. Players try capture and hold points for their team. Whenever a team holds the majority of points the other team will start to lose points more quickly. The first team to lose all their points loses the match. Unlike previous installments there isn't much of a learning curve. From hardcore FPS players to people who start playing for the first time: You pick up the controls and start playing, it's a game that is very much targeted at a more casual audience. With 3 classes each focusing on a different role there is a bit of variety and teamwork needed to make the most out of your team! |
